Three classes are available: Experienced, those who able to confidently pronounce words in the Welsh language and who are experienced singers. Beginner, some singing experience but who have none or very little experience with the Welsh language. Building repertoire and fundamental technique, and working on pieces that we’ll sing together in our Ambell i Gân choir. Also, a variety of option classes. For the evenings, more informal music-making with singing sessions. Evening instrumental sessions too! We’ll also hold an open singing circle where everyone can take turns to share songs. ⊕ This is a special opportunity for children aged 8-13 to attend a residential course at Glan-llyn to take part in folk music activities, singing, dancing, playing instruments and all with a good dollop of adventurous activities. The musical elements will be led by 3 leading individuals in their fields – the singer and harpist from the group Pedair – Gwenan Gibbard, the fiddler and singer Angharad Jenkins from Calan and the broadcaster and expert clog dancer – Tudor Phillips. The course will run from 12pm Friday February 16, to 4pm Sunday February 18. Price £160. The price includes accommodation, food, training, activities and childcare. Unfortunately, at that late stage, the venue came up with additional charges and restrictions which put the Festival in an almost certain severe loss-making situation. ⊕ Whitby Folk Week is a celebration of British traditional song, dance, music and storytelling. It takes place in the picturesque fishing town of Whitby and runs each year from Saturday to Friday of the week running up to the August bank holiday weekend. There are daily concerts, talks, interviews, workshops, presentations, ceilidhs and social dance, as well as a programme of children's events. Whitby is renowned for its wide variety of workshops. There are many opportunities to learn new styles of dance, or take up an instrument, as well as workshops aimed at more experienced attendees. Several of the workshops are progressive culminating in a showcase at the end of the week. Our annual Music and Craft Fair is open throughout the week with a wide variety of stalls selling musical instruments, craft, and - of course - festival merchansdise. ⊕ A high-energy four-day residential event for young people between 11 and 18 years of age, at Glanllyn, the Urdd Residential Centre in Bala. We offer places to approximately 40 young people. There are instrumental, vocal and clog dancing lessons during the day, followed by informal sessions, concerts, get-togethers, twmpathau and more in the evenings, with opportunities for the young people to take part in some of the fun outdoor activities which Glan-llyn has to offer, too.
